Mary Beth & Chris Branson Become Owners of Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel
Chris and Mary Beth Branson recently completed the purchase of Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel in Mooresville, Indiana from Sam Carlisle. Chris, who grew up in Shelbyville, Indiana, and his wife, Mary Beth, whose parents, Liz and Buddy Koschnick, live in Morgantown, Indiana, currently reside in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood of Indianapolis. They and their two sons, Benjamin and Buddy, are in the process of relocating to their new home on East High Street next door to the funeral chapel.
Chris is a graduate of Xavier University and has been in funeral service since 1992. He was employed by Leppert Mortuary for twelve years leaving there in 2005 as the general manager. Until recently, Chris was a funeral director for Hippensteel Funeral Home in Lafayette, Indiana where he headed up their pre-need department. Mary Beth enjoys being a stay-at-home mom, caring for their two sons.
Chris expressed his and Mary Beth?s excitement at becoming part of the Mooresville Community saying, "Mary Beth and I are looking forward to this new venture. Mooresville has such a warm and welcoming feeling, and we are excited to be able to carry on the century old commitment to service the Carlisle Family has provided to the community." He continued, "when we approached Sam about the purchase, we felt we had found the right match. Mary Beth and I for a long time have wanted a place of our own. Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel is well established and is highly regarded in our industry and more importantly the community. We look forward to building on its success. This move also allows us to be near our family." |

Carlisle expressed similar thoughts about the "rightness" of the match saying, "This decision was not without a long period of thoughtful consideration. Chris and Mary Beth stood out amongst all those expressing interest. They are customer service focused and have shown a commitment to that end. They are warm, caring, and sincere individuals. I feel completely comfortable 'passing the torch' to them. I know they will take care of people like my family has been known to do."
People will see very little will change at the funeral chapel. The name will remain the same, and there will be no staffing changes. Carlisle is investigating returning to school and pursuing a career in human services or the not-for-profit sector.
History of Carlisle and Son Funeral Chapel
Carlisle & Son Funeral
Chapel has served the surrounding communities since the early 1890’s.
Frank E. Carlisle began in funeral service by purchasing an interest in
the J.H. Rusie Furniture and Undertaking business.
In 1895, with partner Daniel Gilbert, Frank purchased
a storefront in downtown Mooresville (the building is currently occupied
by the Harris & Currens Law Office). After one year, he purchased
Gilbert's interest and began conducting business under his own name. Frank’s
son, Milford E. Carlisle, joined the business in 1929 shortly after his
father’s death. In 1949 the funeral home moved to its present location
of 39 East High Street. In 1952, after his service in the Marine Corp
during the Korean Conflict, Milford’s son, George E. Carlisle, joined
the firm. George’s son, Samuel E. Carlisle, joined the firm in 1988 after graduation from Ball State
University and Mid America College of Mortuary Science. Sam owned and operated the
business until January of 2007, when Sam sold the business to Chris and Mary Beth Branson.
The facilities of Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel
have changed over time to meet the needs of the community it serves. Chris and Mary Beth find pride and privilege providing
personalized care to the families they serve. |
