Eugene A. Shrake, 87, of Avon, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family to his heavenly home May 14, 2009. He was born in Mooresville, Indiana, January 14, 1922, to the late Murrel O. and Mary Vannice (Poe) Shrake. One brother, Donald Shrake, preceded him in death.
Mr. Shrake graduated from Mooresville High School in 1940. He retired from Allison in 1980, having worked there for forty years.
He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1946, serving most of his time in Bahia, Brazil, South America as a repairman for U.S. Navy Ships.
Gene and his wife were charter members of the Grace Missionary Church in Mooresville and charter members of Faith Missionary in Martinsville. He has been a member of Kingsway Christian Church in Avon since 1986.
He is survived his wife of 64 years, Mable Evelyn (Walton) Shrake; one son, Jonathan David Shrake (Linda) of Thorntown; two grandsons, Justin Levi Shrake of Indianapolis and Eric Hollingsworth of Lebanon; one brother, Jimmy Shrake of Mooresville; several nieces and nephews.
Gene and his wife walked where Jesus walked in Jerusalem in 1990, and now he is in his presence. Gene was a man of great faith.
Friends and family will gather on Sunday, May 17, 2009, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Kingsway Christian Church, 10th & Dan Jones Road, Avon. Funeral service will begin at 10 a.m., Monday, May 18, 2009, in the church. Interment, with military honors, will follow in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Memorial contributions may be made to the church, 7979 E. County Road 100 N., Avon, Indiana. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville. |
