John E. May, I

John E. May, I, 84, Camby, died January 4, 2009, in Clarian West Medical Center.  Mr. May was born October 28, 1924, in Gosport, Indiana, to the late Lester and Alice (Page) May. 

 

Mr. May graduated from Ellettsville High School and proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean War.  He was employed at Naval Avionics for many years as an inspector, retiring in 1983.  In addition, he was a member of the Mooresville American Legion and V.F.W.  Mr. May was a long time member of First Baptist Church, Mooresville.  He enjoyed sports, fishing, and playing euchre at the Mooresville Senior Center. 

 

Mr. May was preceded in death by his wife, Linda May; daughter, Jerri Lynn May; son, James Eric May; brother, Paul May; sister, June Hawkins.

 

Survivors include his son John May, II of Mooresville; daughters, Janet K. Barley (Mike) of Monticello, Joy Bowen (Ben) of Mooresville, Jill Haddock (Don) of Coatesville, Judith Gibson (Paul) of Mooresville; brother, Lester May of Bloomington; sister, Joyce Birch of Gosport; step-sons, Jeff Stoelting of Greenwood, Andy Stoelting of Terre Haute, Richard Stoelting of Terre Haute; father-in-law John Christopher of Terre Haute; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 7 step grandchildren. 

 

Friends may call on Wednesday, January 7, 2009, 4 to 8 p.m., in the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville.  The funeral service will be on Thursday, January 8, 2009, 10 a.m., in the First Baptist Church, 680 N. Indiana St., Mooresville.  The committal service will follow at 2 p.m., in Ellettsville Presbyterian Cemetery, Ellettsville.  Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

We are sorry to hear about your loss. We were his neighbors for years & we also attend church with him. He will be sadly missed. He was so nice everyone. Your all in our thoughts & prayers.
