Vestal Harold Stinson

Vestal Harold Stinson, 86, Martinsville, died September 27, 2008, in Community Hospital South.  Mr. Stinson was born January 1, 1922, in Allen County, Kentucky, to the late Everett Wilson and Bessie Mae (Butrum) Stinson. 

 

Mr. Stinson worked in construction as an ironworker for more than 62 years and was the first coordinator of the apprenticeship training school for ironworkers in 1974.   In addition, Mr. Stinson served as the business manager of Local Union #22 and also served in every office position in the union, with the exception of secretary.  He was a member of Acton Masonic Lodge #134, Scottish Rite, and the Martinsville American Legion. 

 

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Millie Grayson; sister, Naomi Ison. 

 

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Emma (Adams) Stinson; children, Harold Stinson of Greenwood, Michael Stinson of Stilesville, Steven Stinson of Martinsville, Jeffrey Stinson of Monrovia, Vickie Brennan of Indianapolis, Suzan Whitaker of Martinsville; brothers, Garvis Stinson of Indianapolis, Estel Stinson of Indianapolis; sister, Barbara Jean Goad of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. 

 

Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 11 a.m. in the Carlisle & Son Funeral Chapel, Mooresville, with calling there on Monday, September 29, 2008, 4 to 8 p.m.  A Masonic memorial service will begin at 7:30 on Monday.  Burial with military honors provided by the Martinsville American Legion will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Waverly.
