Guidance for coping with a death.

What happens now:

Immediately contact your funeral director. He or she will make immediate arrangements for the removal of the deceased from the place of death. At that time your funeral director will make an appointment with you to meet at the funeral home to make funeral or other final disposition arrangements, including:

  • Burial or cremation arrangements
  • Assistance with obtaining burial place
  • Minister choice
  • Funeral service options; visitation, funeral service, graveside services, memorial services
  • Determine days and times of services and visitation
  • Funeral home facility or church
  • Gather biographical information for death certificate and obituary.

  • Casket, Vault, Urn selections
  • Veteran information for VA: County Burial Benefits and flag. Honorable discharge or DD 214 required.
  • Flowers
  • Clothing - a complete set of clothing is appropriate
  • Photographs for hairstyle or memorial folder
  • Arrange for barber or hair stylist
  • Jewelry
  • Photograph or momentos for display
  • Military Honors
  • Fraternal organization services: Masonic, Eastern Star, Elks, Eagles, etc.
